Get naked, grab a mirror and a friend.
Look everywhere-the soles of your feet, your back, and your scalp. A husband/wife or friend can help check difficult to see places.
-
Use the ABCDE method. Check your moles for:
- Asymmetry: One side looks different from the other
- Border: Edges should be smooth
- Color: All moles should be one even color
- Diameter: Should be smaller than a circumference of a pencileraser
- Evolving: Look for any change, such as bleeding or itching
MAP IT or SNAP IT!
Keep track of your moles by mapping them. Blank maps are available at aad.org or photograph moles you want to watch.- Report changes to your doctor. Schedule your annual dermatologist visit.
- Learn from your clinical skin exam and do a self-exam after your clinical, so you can compare in a month.
