ABOUT TEAM SUPERGOOP!

Holly ThaggardHolly Thaggard, CEO and Founder of Doctor T's Supergoop! recognized the importance of teaching children sun safe habits and built her company around the need shortly after a close friend was diagnosed with skin cancer at the age of 29. A mother and former Episcopal school teacher, she developed this idea conceived in 2001 into the 2004 launch of a two-fold program developed both to teach fundamental sun safety in the classroom and encourage practical application of a sun safe product for the entire family on a daily basis.

"Children are the root of change", says Thaggard. "When America set out to change attitudes about forest fires, seat belts or litter on our highways, children have always proven to be key. Once a child understands the importance of something they become relentless in not only changing their own behavior, but that of those around them."

Understanding that not all sunscreens offer the same protection when exposed to sunlight, Holly quickly partnered with father-in-law and radiologist, A. Thaggard, MD for the medical expertise needed in research and development of the Supergoop! formulation.

Thaggard, and marketing partner Kelly Steelman, began branding the new formula to be viewed as "fun" by children and parents alike. Everything from the product's name, Supergoop!, to its logo and cartoon character representation of "Doctor T" were designed to support the concept that children should want to apply this product everyday. "Gone should be the days", says Thaggard, "that a parent should have to chase their child around with a bottle of sunscreen."

"As children are taught and become themselves aware of the reasons why the sun can be harmful, they begin to take an active role in their own sun protection. It is only this way that attitudes and behaviors will change on a bigger scale." says Thaggard.
