Supergoop! to be Honored with the Prestigious 2006 "Gold Triangle Award"
June 8, 2006
Dallas, TX - Dallas headquartered, Supergoop! will be honored by the American Academy of Dermatology as a recipient of the prestigious 2006 " Gold Triangle Award". This award, named for outstanding work in the promotion and awareness of dermatologic conditions and health, will be presented at a black-tie ceremony on Thursday, July 27, 2006 at the San Diego Marriott, in conjunction with the Academy’s summer scientific meeting.
Holly Thaggard, CEO and Founder of Supergoop!, credits the spf 30 sunscreen's rapid growth and program success to the companies dedication toward education. "Scoop on the Goop!", Thaggard's launch initiative designated as award winner by the Academy, is a two-fold program which teaches sun safety in the elementary classroom and encourages daily application of sun safe products while at school.
After a close friend was diagnosed with skin cancer at age 29, Thaggard, a former Episcopal school teacher and new mother, began her quest to make an attitudinal and behavioral change in the way children and their families viewed sun protection. "Children are the root of change", says Thaggard.
"When America set out to change attitudes about forest fires, seat belts or litter on our highways, children have always proven to be key. Once a child understands the importance of something they become relentless in not only changing their own behavior, but that of those around them."
With this in mind, Thaggard partnered with her father-in-law and radiologist, Dr. Al Thaggard, or "Doctor T" to create a "super" brand of spf 30 sunscreen which would offer superb UVB and UVA sun protection and be viewed as "fun" by children. Everything from the product's name, Supergoop!, to its logo and cartoon character representation of Doctor T, were designed to support the concept that children should want to apply this product. "Gone should be the day's", says Thaggard, "that a parent should have to chase their child around with a bottle of sunscreen."
Dr. Thaggard, an avid golfer and sportsman, wanted a product and packaging that would make application easy for children and be convenient for a family's year round use. "Our No-Slip-Sports-Grip with Dry Touch formulation enables you to go about your routine immediately after you put it on."
Supergoop! spf 30's UVA and UVB broad spectrum protection with photostable avabenzone is aloe vera based with vitamins A, C & E. It is hypoallergenic, PABA, oil and fragrance free for sensitive skin and yet is very water resistant and sweat proof, acting as an excellent wind block, perfect for high altitude climate sports such as snow boarding and skiing.
Since the initial success of Supergoop! spf 30's "Scoop on the Goop" launch within schools, the product has expanded into private country clubs and has recently launched a website and retail line making their product available beyond those who initially tried the sunscreen in the classroom. Supergoop! can be found throughout a growing number of country club grounds placed in locations near pools, tennis courts, locker rooms and on the golf course. An "Ask Doctor T" column in membership newsletters reinforces the educational directive offering important sun safety information relevant to children and adults alike.
